Bask was created by the birthless, like his brother and sister. He was tasked with shepherding mana when it became lost from the collective. The end of their journey often left a melancholy feeling for the god as though the mana wanted to be and do more. It was he who had discovered the mana had gained sentience and befriended this new life first, allowing the mana to travel, gave birth to mortals. Bask allowed them to travel so long as they never forgot that they would always come back to him in the end.
When the mortals began to strike one another down, Bask would come for them then, he would go over their lives with them and ask them if they had any regrets. He came across many scenarios... some fulfilled, some not so much, but each one was slightly different than the others. With him being forbidden to interact with mortals, his only friends were those whose journeys had already ended. So he continued those journey's occasionally befriending those who caught his attention and granting them additional chances at life, as they could no longer be considered mortals... the undead's journey was that of something new.
Like Aspel, Bask keeps a book. He appears to mortals at the moment of death—to collect their dying breath. He listens to their final gasps, a lifetime of memories and sins. He pens these into The Book of Whispers and holds it safe so that when their families come to unite with their fallen and pray to him for answers, he can deliver those final words to help put others at rest. All mortals are judged at death, but not by the gods and instead by those they left behind.

Maleia sea is home to a nation of nomadic pirates who generally live by their creed. Across the sea are the Maleia islands which hold various small cultures, each one unique in its way. Collectively the islands are ruled by the President of the United islands, elected by the council of pirates and island representatives. Many of the more elaborate and majestic islands are built on the backs of dragon turtles that have symbiotic relationships with the people of Maleia, which allows the people to move as need be.
Neria is a Confederation of several independent clans and families, with loose rules and enforcement between the clans under normal circumstances, with the muscles of the government being flexed to maintain a small level of uniformity and to defend against foreign and domestic threats.
Seiran, the largest country on Cavus, is bordered by the Abyss to the northwest and Neria to the north. Seiran is divided into two regions. Central Seiran is made up of a mountainous desert, while Coastal Seiran is blessed with fertile land and forests. Once two countries with a reasonably bloody history, Seiran has only become a semi-united front relatively recently. They are vastly different culture wise and prefer to stay very hands-off with one another, and they are one country in name only.
It is a country in which the current regime is a monarchy and is ruled by a Queen, who is the head of the government. Next to the Queen is the power exercised by the government made up of 7 princesses. Tragen is the most rugged body of land found within Cavus outside of the Abyss. Tragen contains the top highest reaching mountains on the planet. Much of Tragen is vertical; mountains, cliffs, and deep valleys. All of the settlements are either found on the shores of rivers and large bodies of water within these valleys. This does not include the 5 cities that reside in other territories.
The abyss is a colossal pit that was created sometime during the age of myth, and it is speculated that the land in which the abyss rest used to be where the gods resided. The vertical hole has a diameter of around 3.6 square miles however the actual depth of the abyss is unknown as it has never been reached, it is known that the surface area of the abyss is at the minimum 9.6 million square miles extended. There are separate oceans, landscapes, continents, and worlds; the further one goes down. At its center rest the Garden of Evil, home to various plant life that is imbued with the power of Dauoin, those who get to close will be overcome with corruption and a need to be wicked.

Created by the birthless, and the first of his kind, Aspel gave names to many of the concepts, feelings, and practices of mortals and birthless alike. For a time, while still new at his job he had minimal issues sharing knowledge with all who sought it, and it is because of this that a variety of creatures on Cavus have a level of intelligence higher than those of earth. It wasn't until after mortals started to use their knowledge to destroy one another that Aspel began to withhold things, later vowing to limit his interactions with mortals to a minimum.
He forced his siblings Bask and Carra to follow that same vow, which became all the more difficult when the mortals would seek them out. To facilitate this constant pursuit of the gods and their abilities, Aspel created a form of communication called prayer, a one-way form of communication between mortals and gods. In doing this, the gods could gain more information and layout paths for those who sought their help without giving away too much information right away.
Aspel created a magical book, in this book, all events past, present, and future are recorded. Aspel himself can't read all of the pages, as doing so will alter them, thus altering his future and the others around him. Mortals, on the other hand, have the ability to read the future so long as their actions were predetermined to learn their future from the book. They can do this only once, and any mortal who has ever tried has gone blind after witnessing the prophecy they were born to tell.

What starts everything?
In the beginning, there were nineteen different entities, each their own celestial body spread across the endless void. They were not omniscient beings but each of them had infinite and limitless potential. In the void, the entities pushed or pulled at one another in passing, each entity was naturally drawn or repulsed by the others. Some would make fantastic pairings, while others would make great nemeses. In the center of these entities built up a pool of energies due to all of their attraction and repulsion, and this energy pool eventually became the first star.
What is the first-star?/Who is Origin?/Who created our universe?
The star born from the celestial bodies was the first god, in its creation, the entities responsible for its inception were pushed apart, separated from their creation.
The entities continued to exist in the void, whereas the star lived outside of it. In the stars loneliness, it began to reach into the void, and in doing so, the celestial entities were drawn to it and were absorbed into the star. The star and the heavenly bodies became one singular entity, and called itself Origin.
Origin had achieved a form of self-awareness and quickly realized that it was unstable, unable to maintain its existence due to conflicts between the opposing forces that made up its composition. Origin searched for methods to maintain its life, and it is uncertain if it failed or succeeded. What is certain, is that these attempts created an explosion that gave birth to time.
What exists now?
With Origin’s explosion came a new generation of celestial bodies, dispersed across the void. These celestial bodies allowed mana to flow, and space and time to form. This explosion created new beings, new ideas, new worlds, and a never-ending migration of infinite celestial power.
In the wake of these forces, pathways were forged, etched into reality traveling from the void. These pathways left behind by this migration of forces were called ley lines, the permanently engraved paths in which mana flows in the universe.
What is a ley line?
Ley lines are like the fabric of a blanket that spans across the entire universe. They are always just out of reach in a physical sense, but can still be heard, felt, and if the mana inside of a ley line is concentrated enough, even seen.
Ley lines are all around us from the moment we are born. Invisible to the naked eye, and oftentimes difficult to detect. They vary in width and length but often lead into several routes in which smaller ley lines branch off from a larger one.
Mana is always moving, leaving the permanent marks wherever it crosses; thus a new leyline expands its reach each day. It is important to remember that while the paths are permanent, the mana within those paths is not.
What is a place of power?
A place of power is any location where two or more ley lines intersect, regardless of size. The more ley lines that intersect any one given spot the more capabilities the place of power has.
Places of power have two modes, active and inactive. An inactive place of power has limited or no mana, while the active place of power has various configurations dependant on the mana that is being fed into it. At most there can be a total of 19 forms of mana, at a minimum there will always be two.
What Planet do we live on?/Where is Cavus?
The world of Cavus was like any other planet formed from the explosion, it distinguished itself when it collided with a place of power where all known ley lines converged, a miracle collision turned the planet into a temporary place of power like no other.
It is the only planet known to have been on all nineteen different Ley lines at once, and for this reason, Cavus is very rich in resources of all kinds, various mana flowing in and around the planet make it a hub for infinite possibilities.
As the planet spins, and flows through space, it can receive magic from any ley lines it collides with. At the same time, mana is leaving the planet. This gives way to places of power switch from active to inactive.
How did we get here?
The first form of sentient life to appear on Cavus were the Birthless, entities that represent the mana passing through Cavus, after them came Gods, and Mortals. The ley lines crept into the planet expanding and shrinking, revolving all over the earth in different shapes and sizes.
Who are the Birthless?
The Birthless are sentient, but very few were sapient. They all had various levels of awareness, and those who were intelligent enough started to seek an understanding of their own existence. They attempted to recreate themselves, and others like them and in their success they created beings more powerful than themselves.
Over time they created the first three gods of Cavus. The God of Knowledge: Aspel, The Goddess of Paths: Cara, and The God of Endings: Bask.
Birthless can only exist wherever a place of power is created. Anytime a place of power becomes active the Birthless can travel to that place. They are not all sentient, and can only use the power from the last place of power that they emerged from.
The Birthless are more raw mana than anything else, the critical difference between raw mana and the Birthless is that the Birthless are self-aware. The Birthless are representatives of the celestial bodies that make up mana within the known universe. They can only be where mana already exists.
What is a Mortal?
A separate existence was created, but it was born from the ambient mana that splashed across the planet. These various splashes would create new forms of life, and Aspel named them Mortals. Sparks of mana would travel across various places, it would be involved in unintentional collisions. This was a reaction of wasted and unused mana coming together to accidentally create Mortals through pure circumstance. They started as primal beings, some remained primal while others progressed and it would take centuries for them to evolve.
What did Mortals do?
Unlike the gods and the Birthless, the Mortals had no access to mana. Once created, they had to find a means to guarantee their continued existence. They found that when a location had a place of power, their aging ceased and they lived without hunger. This facilitated a mindset that stated: living away from a place of power meant death. However, this risk did not stop the Mortals from leaving these locations. In some cases, a place of power would slowly start to become dormant, which would require Mortals to migrate and find new homes before death came for them. They sent out scouts, and rangers to find unique places to settle.
Some Mortals grew tired of their constant reliance on places of power. Those Mortals focused on learning about themselves, and the world. In doing so, they discovered that they did not have to live forever, they could have children that were not dependant on the mana of the ley lines to survive. They could hunt and forage, and while they would go hungry some days, other days their efforts and hard work would reward them with another sunrise.
This lifestyle saw the creation of an investment in one's offspring. It saw a love of adventure and appreciation for things the world had to offer. Their descendants ventured the planet, establishing ways of life that would sustain them without the mana that had built them.
What is a God?
A God is a Birthless reborn, that has access to all forms of mana at all times. This becomes possible via a pact with (up to) nineteen lesser Birthless that form a permanent bond between one another. The lesser Birthless channel mana from a well-established leyline or place of power and maintain it for the God. As long as a Birthless has access to all forms of mana, and other Birthless to channel that mana, they will maintain the title of God.
It is important to note, that lesser Birthless do not come free, and have their own requirements for their services from the Birthless that they will elevate into God Status. These requirements could be as simple as forbidding the God from interacting with Mortals to being forced to kill one mortal a day. Each God is different and has different requirements to meet.
What did Gods do?
Aspel witnessed the events of all things on Cavus and recorded them in a book named after himself: Memoirs of Aspel. Everything from the tiniest of insects to the tallest of giants was recorded.
Bask collected the dead and ambient mana on Cavus and returned it to the ley lines so that it could be used once again. The dead would see his visage, just before their lives ended.
Carra managed the flow of mana within Cavus. She placed gates on all ley lines and opened or closed them to widen the balance of mana across the world. She would overflow them occasionally which lead to creations of additional ley lines and places of power.
In creating more places of power, she increased places for Mortals to live. However, the places of power went dormant faster as mana spread itself more thinly. This also created more opportunities for Mortals and the Birthless to interact. This would soon cause the lifestyle of Mortals to shift again, and they would all adopt a lifestyle that was not dependant on a place of power as a result.
What did the Mortals and the Birthless do together?
As the opportunity for Mortal and Birthless interaction grew, so did their fondness of each other. They taught one another, strengthened one another, and encouraged the growth of their union. The birth of Mortal and Birthless children was inevitable, and while relationships were strained through the distance caused when a place of power went dormant, some relationships lasted.
Those relationships brought new beings born from their unions. Creatures with access to mana, and no requirements to be emissaries for mana. They were powerful and free. For the most part, they lived just as the Mortals had, their lifespans extended much farther than a mortal so they would become leaders.
The ability to perform miracles put them on pedestals. Little did one such hybrid know that he would be chosen by a group of Birthless for something greater. That hybrid’s name was Dauoin.
What did Dauoin do?
Dauoin didn't understand what he was until a collection of Birthless came to him in the night, and informed him of his heritage. The Birthless came to him with a tale of significant loss and suffering caused by the greed of Mortals and the selfishness of hybrids.
After informing him all this they told him of a means to prevent the events of loss, they said to him that they needed a protector, someone with enough power to be in all places, see all things, and protect people from themselves, and those who would do them harm.
Dauoin had been chosen by the Birthless due to qualities that they had observed him portraying, and he followed that nature in vowing to help them in any way he could. The Birthless performed a pact with him, granting him the simple duty of protecting all Mortals and Birthless from danger. It was on this day that the Birthless realized that a mortal could become a God and Dauoin was forever called: the God of Protection.
Dauoin established an order among all beings on Cavus to achieve his purpose and goals. He monitored all events, barred others from activities that would cause them harm, until they proved themselves more than capable of performing the task.
How did Mortals react?
Many Mortals worshipped the God of Protection, he kept them safe, he tested them, ensuring that they wouldn’t take on obstacles before they were ready. He would help them overcome inevitable barriers. So long as you were appreciative, and kind-hearted, no harm would come to you.
However, there were those who would want to usurp the God of Protection’s power. Some Mortals sought to violence during hard times. Some Mortals when challenged would transfer their challenges to others to overcome difficulties. Some Mortals would not hesitate to strike others to get ahead. Dauoin realized that his task, his purpose, was folly.
“Who is right in a world where only those who overcome challenges can prosper? Are you a protector of the weak, or a protector of the strong? It is not possible to be both.” Mortals went after one another, and the God of Protection was tasked with endless decisions.
It always came down to the greater good to his mission, the greater good to his purpose. Surely he wouldn’t lose his power for killing what he was sworn to protect. When Dauoin killed for the first time he realized that he had to do what was needed and it had to be done for the greater good.
This event would cause Dauoin to take a more tyrannical approach to protect Mortals, creating the conditions under which they would not be free to make their own choices. They all would obey him, and in disobeying him, they threatened all Mortals.
A punishment that was met with death. Under his constant omniscient eye, only those deemed good were allowed to live. With so many restrictions the Mortals grew frustrated with the God and sought out the Birthless to provide balance to his actions.
The Birthless answered by blessing a young hybrid, an orphan girl named Elise, with a task. She had just lost her father when he attempted to steal food to feed her. She quickly understood that the scales had not been balanced for her, or her father, and upon her hurried acceptance to create balance she became The God of Balance.
What did Elise do?
Elise and Dauoin clashed, the God of protection deeming her a threat to all life. Elise claimed that Dauoin had too much power over Mortals, and had overstepped within his purpose. The two Gods attempted to destroy each other by going after their respective sources of power.
They would meet in a continuous stalemate. She listened to the claims of the Birthless, and Mortals and enlisted the assistance of Carra to strengthen a happy medium among all of the various entities. Carra, being glad to create new paths for Mortals and Birthless alike, agreed to assist her.
Neither of the Goddesses would allow Dauoin to be without power. Deeming it unfair, and unjust. Elise and Carra put limits on everything, simple forms of mana were now difficult. The overall amount of places of power diminished again, but Mortals were free to make their own mistakes again.
With mana so limited, the ley lines began to overflow once more. Carra and Elise combined their efforts to give Mortals the ability to use mana. Carra allowed mana to flood, into the villages where Mortals lived, ley lines formed in or on their bodies down to a cellular level. Many Mortals were changed forever, and as a means of guaranteeing that Mortals would always have the ability to use mana, Elise forced her own sources of mana into Mortals so that a reservoir would form. From that point forward, many of the children born from parents who had mana flowing through them were also born with mana reservoirs.
How did the Birthless react?
While Elise was victorious in her overall mission, some of the Birthless were left disappointed. The Birthless had been significantly separated from Cavus. Less active places of power meant less time to interact with Mortals. Hybrid births decreased considerably as a result of the Birthless and Mortals spending less time interacting with one another. The Birthless would grow less interested in Cavus and begin to travel to other worlds. Soon they were far and few between.
How did the Mortals react?
Mortals worshiped Elise, as she gave them the one thing they would forever treasure: mana. The Mortals build shrines in her name and use their newfound magical abilities to accomplish things that had never been done or even thought of. They made cities the ascended above the land, they created powerful artifacts that could do things like finding anything on your mind or revive the dead, and they traveled to the moons of Cavus. Their society prospered, and the planet belonged to them.
How did Dauoin react?
The God of Protection, feeling the need to maintain his duty no matter what the cost, enlisted followers and worshipers as soldiers to enact his will. They made plans and began a campaign of protecting only those that followed the ways of Dauoin, anyone who did not follow the path of protection was considered a threat to the Mortals of Cavus and threats were all handled the same.
Users of mana were always a threat to the Mortals of Cavus, and as such, it was forbidden by Dauoin for his followers to use mana. In his vision, this was the only way to be sure the threat was no more. Anyone caught using mana would be struck down by the people, rather than by the hand of a God.
What lead to “The Break”?
Cavus would see war when the followers of Dauoin went against the followers of Elise. Followers to both parties included Birthless and Mortals alike, which led to overuse and development of destructive mana. Many died, the land was permanently warped, and this caused significant imbalances, to the flow of mana.
While The God of Balance devised many methods of recovery, she could not get the peace she needed to restore the balance in Cavus. In an attempt to force balance quickly and abruptly, Elise devised a tactic to use Null-mana. She absorbed as much Null-mana as possible, ultimately drying up all the ley lines in Cavus at once. She called for Null-mana across the stars and void, then she directed the mana in magic attack at The God of Protection.
What is “The Break”?
Dauoin attempted to defend himself, but what could one do against a force that revoked all magic? He tried to deflect the attack using his own Null-mana, but Elise was still drawing a significant amount. The backlash from the attack led to damage on both sides of the war.
Dauoin saw that his attempts at survival were destroying his people, in a bid of frustration, and feeling he ultimately lost, he sacrificed himself and began to absorb the Null-mana that Elise was throwing at him rather than deflect it. This created a vacuum between the two both of them powerless to stop the flow of mana now. Elise was the first to pull away from the loop, and now all of the Null-mana flowed directly through Dauoin. It pushed him down, the land caved inwards, and earth separated as they descended. When the Null-mana engorged Dauoin, hit the core of the planet, violent earthquakes began, and then the piercing screams of a God were heard across the globe as the Null-mana shot into the sky.
The screams subsided, but the constant stream of Null-mana out of the abyss continued. Elise was weakened after the attack, and her connections to magic that made her the God of Balance were severed. All of the known ley lines on Cavus were filled with Null-mana. Places of power were a thing of the past. With only Null-mana on Cavus, the ways of magic were lost to the sands of time, forgotten by the people of Cavus, fading into myth and legend.
The earliest time any mortal can recall was the event infamously known as “The Break.” A wave of raw and powerful magic that washed over everything after a massive impact into the earth, piercing a hole into the planet so deep that many believed it went clean through. The wave decimated all things within its path.
Earthquakes and tidal waves, floating colonies falling from the sky like meteors, and lava erupting from instant canyons in the middle of cities. The ley lines stopped sending their magic across the world, killing all beings that were entirely dependant on magic to survive. With magic gone, the Birthless went with it. The Gods all lost their powers and reverted to Birthless. With no places of power the Birthless could travel Cavus no more, those Birthless who did not make it back to a place of power in time died out during The Break.
What is the Collapse?
After “The Break,” the Mortals reverted to a primal state, driven by a need to survive, in a warped and broken land. They turned on one another and blood was shed endlessly. This state of continually fighting one another for territory lasted for thousands of years. They forgot the gods, the Birthless, and their beloved use of magic, they would know only war and survival. Elise would wander the earth in search of a way to restore magic. Dauoin’s body would forever be buried in the pit of the world. Aspel and Bask’s whereabouts would go unknown, and Carra would inhabit a hybrid host, until the end of time.

What can I be in the world of Cavus?
Cavus is home to different life forms, that can be broken down based on species, and origin. The first method of separating all of the forms of life in Cavus is done by origin. Within each origin, there are various species.
Origins are determined based on where the first of their kind appeared. Origins have the following different forms of life.
Magic of the Universe
There are several ways to get the energy known as mana, some are more readily available than others, and in order to survive in the land of Cavus, one needs to know where to find it. Mana enters the body of mortals and creates a network of leylines. Each network is different. No one person is the same.
A mana method is the most important detail when it comes to using magic in the world of Cavus. Specifically, it explains how you recharge your magical abilities. In total, there are three mana methods, and their origins go back to the dawn of man. Mana methods can not be combined because combining mana methods has a 100% death rate.

The Beings of Cavus
How did we get here?

What is the abyss?
The Abyss is the hole that Elise blasts into the planet, it is also the focal point of where all the known mana in the world is sent when it comes into contact with null mana leylines during the dark age of Cavus. The abyss is the home of a funnel for mana, where all the mana hitting Cavus would essentially be sucked up into this one spot for many years, because of this the Abyss is a unique place that is impossible to navigate. The very essence of all things that exist meet in this one place. It is made up of a total of 13 layers, however only the first and last layer always remain where they are, layers 2 through 12 will shift in order, sometimes they will trade just individual parts, or sometimes a layer will vanish entirely for a week making it impossible to climb further down.
The reason for the randomness of the layers is due to a glitch in the mana flow caused by null mana. While on these layers, dependant on the layer you will find different kinds of magic, not in the form of places of power but instead in the form of keystones.
What is a keystone?
A keystone, is mana that is so condensed and pressurized that it turns into a stone. This occurs, because the null mana is pushing down on all the mana, and once it gets into the abyss, it has nowhere to go. So mana is pulled into this gravity well that collects and condenses the mana, and then it creates a keystone. The amount of keystones on each layers determine which layer is at the top, and which layer is at the bottom.
There are two types of keystones, purified keystones, and frenzied keystones.

Not a big update today, but we feel it is an impactful one.
Our Road Map is now live, for all to see along with a nice little progress bar to boot. We have been making good headway, in the lore with additional fact checking to avoid any miscommunication. We also now have a few good ideas on what plots we want to launch with and what will flow into what as we move along.

We are looking for kind judgment of what we have so far from the community, so if you want to get a glance behind the curtain, our server is the place to be.
Kurose the God Eater
"If you consume the flesh of your kin, you will crave more and more. Your appetite will become insatiable... your skin will turn black... your senses will grow weak... and you will come to me... because it is what you needed... it is what you desired... what would happen if your kin were divine... would that mean I crave divine blood?"
Kurose, The God Eater, The King of the Abyss. A man from a harsh uprising during a time where magic did not exist, destined for greatness and horrible atrocities. Prophecies tell of the God Eaters march against the world of Cavus. Born with the name Kurose, he was born from the goddess of balance. Once a warrior of near legendary prowess among his people, Kurose enjoyed a life of adventure and debauchery. Like many others in his clan, he served as a mercenary, battling rival warriors for glory, bragging rights, and women.
After his father's death, he craved the same renown and the elation of battle. When accused of weakness, after the defeat from his younger brother, and the escape of his mother, he vowed to face the depths of the Abyss. Without a word, he gathered his arms and departed for the world pit.
It is unknown what transpired in the Abyss, no one has ever heard the story and lived. Some say Kurose ate the remains of an old god... others say that a Birthless intervened and saved him from certain death. Whatever the case may have been, it was clear that Kurose did not survive the Abyss with his own power. When he emerged, the warrior appeared different, scorned and mad. He declared war on all known nations of the world, and we have been at war with the Abyss ever since.

This is the first of many NPC profile pieces we will be putting out. This character is intended to be a primary antagonist for everyone, he works entirely alone unless you are a part of his wendigo army. Which even then they are all mindless. You can see in the illustration the slight visages of three of his more loyal wendigo generals. The entire logic is behind these characters is that Kurose gives off a cannibalistic aura when in his presence you will crave the flesh of those near you. You will then either have to kill yourself to stop yourself from eating them or escape the range of his aura to get rid of the effects of the God Eater. If you successfully consume the flesh of someone while under his aura your mind will be wiped and you will become a wendigo slave.

Project Aspirant is the development process for the fourth iteration of the group roleplay titled Estorica. Estorica is a roleplay forum with a dedicated setting coming from the mind of its creators. (The Estorica Founders) A hearty mix of fantasy and fiction that comes together to provide exciting stories for people to create, and a platform for those stories to be appreciated by others. In some sense, it is a game, involving play by post elements, with rules and mechanics. In other aspects, it is collaborative writing experiment, with constants and variables.
In creating Project Aspirant, we set out some goals, and we hope to achieve them with your help. Roleplayers write responses to one another through posts. Each post describes the character's actions, speech, and thoughts. Forum roleplay is often called play-by-post roleplay. It takes a community to make roleplaying truly work.
We have several milestones with these goals in mind, that will be updated regularly.
